Tim Phelan, Vice President of Client Services at Unemployment Tax Control Associates (UTCA), based in Springfield, MA joined nearly 50 other community members, politicians and state dignitaries to share his love of reading with E.J. Harrington Elementary School students in Lynn, MA. The annual event was held in May as part of Harrington School’s “Community Reads Day.” Phelan, who is also President of the Lynn City Council, read several books to the fourth grade class. He spoke to the students about the importance of reading and education throughout their lives.
“It’s always rewarding to be able to give back to the community,” said Tim Phelan, Vice President of Client Services. “Encouraging young minds to read and experiencing their enthusiasm makes you realize the future is bright for all of us. The school system does a great job of organizing this event. My hat goes off to them and I look forward to participating in the future. It was a lot of fun.”
Phelan also answered questions about his job, family and education. Phelan has been with UTCA over 10 years and has been actively involved in community matters throughout his tenure with the company. UTCA is a national service corporation which assists clients in effectively managing their unemployment insurance programs. Suzanne Murphy, President and CEO of UTCA noted “Our firm has a Community Service policy that encourages employees of the company to get involved in their communities by providing them with paid days off throughout the year for this purpose. It’s both rewarding and important we support programs that provide meaningful services to our communities.” UTCA has offices in Springfield and Boston.
