UTCA Hosts 15th Annual Client Update

Unemployment Tax Control Associates (UTCA) hosted their 15th Annual Client Update at the Sheraton Monarch Place Hotel and Conference Center. “This year’s event was an overwhelming success. Our clients make this annual program remarkably entertaining and educational.

Clearly, turnout at capacity levels, illustrates the value of these updates” said Suzanne Murphy.

15th Annual Client UpdateThis year’s show mimicked the popular game show “Family Feud” with the team of Matt Giroux (Loomis House/Loomis Village) and Becky Laurie (Webster Bank) besting the competition for this year’s Gold Medal and American Express gift cards. Atty. Tim Phelan, VP Client Services, served as the program emcee, challenging attendees with interesting questions and insightful information on unemployment law.

“As a new client, it was interesting to learn how effectively UTCA integrates information with an entertaining twist. Our team really enjoyed the delicious food and opportunity to win gifts; all while being educated on their available services”, commented Ryan Kidder from the City of Springfield, Public Schools Department.

Guest speakers this year included Michelle Amante, Acting Director of the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA). Michelle addressed benefit integrity, the impact of fraud/overpayments, the state of our UI trust fund and proposed remedy’s to remain solvent. Michelle also discussed future DUA initiatives and fielded a number of questions from the audience. Attorney Meghan Sullivan, a highly respected employment law attorney from the law firm of Sullivan, Hayes & Quinn, closed the event with her annual employment law update. Her presentation touched on Mobile Workforce trends, key EEOC court rulings and important information related to “Standards of Conduct”.  Clients were reminded to visit our website throughout the year and encouraged to login to UTCA’s On-Line Learning area to keep pace with changes in the coming year.
