North Carolina Increases Job Search Requirements for UI Claimants

Senate Bill 15 was signed by Governor Pat McCrory on September 10, 2015. The law requires claimants who are seeking unemployment benefits to make additional weekly job contacts beginning January 2016. The law increases the minimum number of job contacts an unemployed worker must make to keep qualifying for benefits from two to five. The new measure also clarifies previous law by allowing job seekers to make all of the work search contacts on the same day.

This new law is beneficial for unemployed workers and employers in the state. Claimants will be pursuing more job openings and employers will have a larger pool of candidates to choose for open positions
