Warwick, Rhode Island – The city increased their school’s unemployment insurance allocation to $200,000 in response to the recent consolidation of their public school system. According to School Chief Budget Officer Anthony Ferrucci, the funding will pay for a net of 42 laid off teachers on unemployment, through September. But if these teachers stay on unemployment the entire year, the cost to the schools will be $400,000, which is double their current budget allocation.
