Unemployment Tax Control Associates (UTCA) recently hosted its 18th Annual Client Update at the Sheraton Monarch Place Hotel and Conference Center in Springfield, MA.
Always a crowd favorite, UTCA returned to its interactive game show format. “Are You Smarter Than a Review Examiner?” was a new spin on the segment, with a team format where employer participants worked together to arrive at decisions to tricky unemployment appeals. Team captain Lori Randall (Balise Auto Sales) and her group came out on top, edging out the Kim Counter’s (J. Polep Distribution) squad and Kim Chatel’s (YWCA) table. All participants were acknowledged for their skillful competition and received Dunkin Donuts and AmEx gift cards. Atty. Tim Phelan, VP of Client Services, once again served as the Master of Ceremony, keeping the teams guessing and laughing.
Guest speakers this year included Mark Adams, Director of HR Services at the Employers Association of the Northeast. Mark informed the audience with newly the emerging Domestic Violence Leave Act, and the impact it will have on employers as it evolves. Attorney Meghan Sullivan, employment law attorney from the law firm of Sullivan, Hayes & Quinn, closed the event with her wildly popular employment law update. She covered a wide range of issues including the effects of ACA provisions on pre-existing employment law, and recent court rulings.
UTCA would like to thank all who attended, and hope to see you back for the 19th Annual Update next fall!
